| This is
a typical pattern for refugee programs that are based on a well-founded
claim of persecution and on family reunification. The
gates opened in 1988, the influx of refugees peaked shortly
after from 1989 to 1994. Although the program is waning, the
gates have not yet closed. Vital rescue, reunification, and
resettlement services are continuing. |
According to HIAS,
from 1989-1991 this resettlement program was among the top ten HIAS-affiliated
resettlement programs nation-wide for:
- the percentage
of individuals securing employment within four months in U.S.A.
- the percentage
of families self-sufficient through employment within four months
in U.S.A. These families did not access refugee cash assistance
from the government.
In 1989-1990,
this resettlement program was top in the nation for the above employment
achievements.
