Cramps
- Cramps may be caused by a variety of factors. If yours are menstrual cramps, please go here.
- If you have been doing some exercise (running, aerobics, etc.) and have gotten a cramp, it could be due to two things. The most likely cause is buildup of lactic acid, which occurs when you use up all your oxygen. Don't stop - if you keep up your activity, it will go away and you'll feel fine. Just remember to breathe regularly (in through the nose, out through the mouth) both IN and OUT. Stopping will make the cramp feel worse.
- If continued activity does not improve the cramp, you may have torn a muscle. In this case, you should stop moving and see a doctor.
- Sometimes muscles seem to cramp up for no reason. Gentle massage and application of a muscle-relaxant cream will help relieve the cramp until it goes away.
