Nails
- Be gentle to nails. Once in a while, go a week or more without nailpolish.
- Nailpolish rules: push back cuticles, clip nails and hangnails, buff and shape nails, then put on a clear coat, followed by 2 coats of nailpolish and a topcoat.
- Dab a little nailpolish on the ends of nails and just underneath to prevent chipping.
- Don't bite or chew! This will weaken your nails and allow them to harbor infections.
- Clean under nails with a nailbrush or a sterilized (boiled) toothbrush).
- Remove nailpolish with nailpolish remover: put a sponge in a jar and cut a slit in it. Saturate the sponge with remover, then twist finger in the jar.
- In a pinch, you can remove nailpolish by applying another thick coat and wiping off.
- To touch up a nailpolish job, dip a qtip in remover and use to clean up any messy edges.
- To prevent dryness and hangnails, soak fingertips in warm oil, then rub the oil into cuticles.
- Push back cuticles with a towel regularly after your shower.
Scrubs and exfoliants
- A scrub of sugar, salt, or baking soda will help remove dead cells from the bottoms of feet and refresh them.
- Scrub heels with a lemon or orange peel to soften.
Soaks
- Make your feet a nice soak with a wide bucket and warm soapy water. Add a drop of your favorite essence, and relax.
- Once in a while, soak your feet in warm, dilute milk. It's very hydrating, and it will put you right to sleep.
