Activity

a. Basic Concept

The basic concept of our activity is Sustainable Agro-ecosystem Development . Agro-ecosystem is manmade ecology system. It has purpose to produce nature product for fulfill human need, particularly agriculture product. As ecology system, agro-ecosystem is dynamic and complex structural system. Using agro-ecosystem approach on nature resource management should be based on four basic elements. They are:

Productivity

Economy is basic reason for human when he would interact with nature. Based on economic perspective, nature resource management should have added value. It is including on subsistent and commercial economic perspectives.

Stability

Stability is stable measure of steadiness productivity process. It purposes productivity process could stable even many insignificant interferences had accrued.

Sustainability

Sustainability is management measure of nature resource management. It purposes that applying nature resource management could give stable and long-term on using and it did not request high accelerate innovation (change) in short time. Sustainability could contribute safety and pleasure values.

Equity

Equity is indicator of system or mechanism on benefit distribution, which related with profit, risk, and loss. We believe that applying of specific distribution system would result social relation pattern on agro-ecosystem management.

b. Technical Assistant

Local Community must has enough knowledge and competence to manage their various resources, t hat 's why improving communitie's skill in managing all various resources is needed. Natural Resources has two basic/main functions, ecological or environmentally function and economically function. In that case we applied three approaches, they are:

•  What are the important resources according to the community and how to cultivate/manage properly

•  How to optimize resources so it could have economically and conservation value (include how to measure the carrying capacity)

•  How to use and create simply and applicable technology to bring added value to the resource

c. Communty Empowerment

Community empowerment is an integrated process between community and village (local authority) development, therefore the social development which has correlation between community and village development should be emphasized. Because this integrated correlation is the mainframe for social development in community based natural resources management.

Because of that reason, we have hard effort to create better atmosphere to encourage social transformation, beside technical aspect. Many initiatives and activities could be develop as a integration between community and village (local) government, such as arrange strategic planning. Political and economic bargaining position could be increased with the integration between farmer and village government. We believe that good social condition among community is a basic requirement for natural resources sustainability

b. Research

As a basic supporting system for our activities we also conduct research about the targeted object. We use and develop the methodology of “Participatory Research” and “Action Research”. Research also means collecting and analyzing secondary data from other institutions or mass media.
