Pregnancy can be
both an exciting and a scary time for your marriage relationship. There
are so many changes happening in your life, body and your sexual
relationship. Read on to discover seven things that you should know about
sex during your pregnancy.
1. Is Sex Safe?
For most women, sex is safe even late in pregnancy. However, sex can cause
problems for some high-risk pregnancies (such as preterm labor, placenta
previa, threatened miscarriage and others). If you are unsure about the
safety of sex during your pregnancy, then
talk to your health-care
provider about it.
2. Hormones: "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly"
a. The Bad and the Ugly:
Nausea and sex do not go together. Early in your
pregnancy you may feel so
tired and sick that sex is the last thing on your mind. Likewise, the
discomforts of late
pregnancy may decrease your sex drive.
b. The Good:
During pregnancy, there is more blood flow to the breasts and the vagina.
You may find that you are aroused and climax more easily because of the
extra hormones.
3. A Position Change
As your pregnancy progresses, you need to
avoid lying flat on your back.
You may have experiment with different positions to find one that is
comfortable for you.
Think of your pregnancy as a time to try something new. Here are just a
few positions that you may want to try:
* Side-lying
* You being on top
* Have your partner sitting in a chair and you sit on top of him
4. Sex Does Not
Hurt the Baby
The baby may get bounced around a little bit, but he or she is well
protected by the amniotic fluid.
5. Your Husband Still Likes to See You Naked
You may feel fat and unattractive, but your husband probably still thinks
you look sexy. He may even enjoy your extra curves.
6. Air is Not Always a Good Thing
If you have oral sex during your pregnancy, your partner should never blow
air into the vagina. It can cause an air embolism (bubble) that is
potentially fatal to the mom and baby.
7. The Calm Before the Storm
If this is your first baby, then enjoy the last few months you have as
just a couple. It will be many years before you have this much time to
yourself again.
