Whatever you’re
both feeling during pregnancy - and there’s every chance you’ll experience
a whole gamut of emotions, urges and (hormonal) power surges – be assured
that it’s all normal.
Your first concern is going to be about the health and safety of your
baby. Your “baby danger antennae” will already be on high alert – you’ll
be drinking less Pinot Grigio, holding the hand rail like your Nan as you
take the stairs and will have already cut out swinging from the
chandeliers from your sexual repertoire.
But it’s not all down to you. For a start you’ll soon start to notice
passers by giving you a wide berth, fearful that a brush of your shoulder
could bring on labour and have them holding warm wet towels, as they
deliver your baby in the doorway of Marks & Spencer. Incidentally if this
does happen, we’ve heard rumours that both M&S and
Mothercare shower you
with gift vouchers if you do indeed give birth in their store, so if
you’re going to waddle around town in the last few weeks, it might be an
idea to linger around their stores.
It’s also worth remembering not to underestimate the power of nature. The
pregnancy process was
designed with lots of protection in mind and also
took into account the fact that Neanderthal man and cave woman would still
fancy at the very least, an occasional shag. For a start your baby is
fully protected by the amniotic sac and the strong muscles in your uterus.
There’s also a thick mucus plug (oh the glamour) that seals the cervix and
helps guard against infection, so not even the legendary John Holmes could
come into contact with the fetus during sex.
