Trains in Germany are fast and efficient, and convenient.  Train travel in Germany can also be relatively inexpensive if you know the tricks.  I have been studying the German Rail system for over five years, and I have discovered some of the ways to keep costs down.  I created this website to share this information with you.

I have divided this website into two areas.  The first is Deutsche Bahn, German Rail, the company that runs the long distance train (Fernverkehr) and also oversees the operation of the regional trains (Nahverkehr). Ill show you how to use the website, where you can find schedules and fares for many trains in Germany.  Also in this section are some of the money saving offers from German Rail.

The second section is devoted to regional transportion, including the Nahverkehr.  These are by Lnder.  Land
[Land. pronounced Lant] is the German word for a state; Lnder [Laender] is the plural.
Deutsche Bahn
Regional Transport

Other topics (FAQ): Frequently Asked Questions.  Included in this section are,
How do I use ticket automats?
How can I determine if a railpass is cost effective?
How to get from FRA to Bavaria cost effectively
How do I get from Munich to Ludwig's castles in Fssen?
What if I want to use a Lnder ticket, but want to leave before 9 AM on a weekday?

For the answer to these questions,

Please bear with me.  This website is a work in progress.  I have tried to start pages for some of the Lnder, showing the price, conditions, and validity area for their day tickets.  Now I have to go back and add details for the Verkehrsverbnde.
