Automats: There are different kinds of ticket machines and they are all so confusing.  How do I use them? <more >

Rail passes: Are Rail Passes cost effective?

That depends entirely on your planned itinerary.  I have found that, for me, they almost never pay for themselves. In Germany, there are a lot of ways to save money on your train travel (Sparpreis, Dauer-Spezial, Schnes-Wochenende-Tickets, Lnder-Tickets, etc.  Some people swear by RailSaver.com, but RailSaver is only good for an approximation.  They don't cover all the routes, and they don't consider all the fares.  There is no substitute for doing the analysis yourself.  <

Early Departure w/ Lnder-Ticket: I want to use a Lnder-Ticket on a weekday, but the train leave a few minutes before 9 AM, and the next one leaves an hour later.  How can I take the earlier train? <more>

FRA to Bavaria: I bought my airfare to FRA, but I really want to go to Bavaria.   What's the least expensive way to get there?

Perhaps the best way to get to, say, Munich, is with a Dauer-Spezial fare.  These can be as low as 19 per person, one way, and permit you to use the high speed trains.  However, they are for a specific train (date and time), and are non-refundable, non-exchangeable, particularly on the day of arrival.  How do you account for a late flight?  There are some tricks. <
