Is Reiki
associated with a religion?
Reiki has been practiced by Christians,
Muslims, Jews, Buddhists, and members of many other religious
institutions. The practice utilizes theory derived from
Eastern religious thought, but is not constrained to a
particular ideology.
Reiki
is not associated with a particular religion, but many of its
concepts are similar to many other perspectives. For
instance, the chakra system is understood in many different
eastern ideologies like Qi Gong, Tai Chi, martial arts, and
many other practices. Reiki transcends religious boundaries
and individual Christians, Buddhists, Muslims, atheists,
agnostics, and members of many other religions have practiced
Reiki. The Reiki spiritual principles are understood as an
individual is healed by Reiki or trained in its use.
The Chakras - The Energy System
Chakras are energy centers in the body that
regulate spiritual energy throughout our system. Seven large
chakras are centrally located from the top of the head to the base
of the torso, near the perineum. Each chakra relates to
specific aspects of the body (physical, mental, emotional, and
spiritual), by regulating activity and supplying energy. Whenever one of these energy centers is harmed or repressed, the
energy in that area becomes disordered causing physical,
psychological, and spiritual disruptions of normal functioning.
Thus, each of the four aspects of our bodies can
affect one another by disrupting the energy within the chakras. By disturbing the energy in one aspect of the body, other areas may
be disturbed as well. For instance, if the source of an
emotional trauma is the way in which one thinks, the energy from the
thoughts is affecting the emotional body and is upsetting its
balance. This can happen in other areas as well: if a person
experiences a great deal of stress during social encounters, this
disturbance may affect the body (such as an occurrence of Irritable
Bowel Syndrome, indigestion, or heartburn).
