Reiki Training
In formal training, there are usually three steps, called
attunements: Level I students learn the basics of Reiki and
the physical-healing symbol. At Level II, students learn
advanced techniques and two symbols, one for emotional/mental
healing and the other for distance healing. The last stage,
Level III, is usually divided into two sections: the first to
complete the symbol training and the second, longer stage to
complete Reiki training and allow the student to teach Reiki
to others. At the beginning of this stage, the student learns
the last two symbols, the spiritual-healing symbol and the
attunement/karma-healing symbol. The second section often
takes a great deal of time, as short as two intense days or as
long as six months.
This entire
process is very subjective and may vary from teacher to
teacher. Some require long practice before completion; some
teach additional, non-Usui symbols; some teach various
breathing and meditation techniques. The core, however, are
the original symbols and teachings of Sensei Usui, part of
which are summarized in the Reiki Principles above.
Spiritual Aspects of Reiki Training
During the training process, some of the
greatest benefits of Reiki surface, like increased awareness
and creativity. Only by teaching others to heal
themselves, can we truly alter another's life and heal. The healing process becomes a part of the spiritual
development of the individual and not simply a process of
healing for functionality.
