Rationalists?

A
quick cliff note answer; would be that the
Ancestry of the earlier Puritans is the Adams.
ohn Adams, John Quincy
Adams, and Samuel Adams all from Massachusetts.
Most miss the fact that Samuel Adams had a great
influence on the foundation of the United
States. He was in fact 20 years older than most
of the founding Fathers, like Madison, Jefferson
and 10 years older then George Washington. He
not only was a signer of the Declaration of
Independence, but spent a great deal of time
involved with government while many other
signers where involve with local affairs during
the Revolution. If one studies the Massachusetts
charters that he was involved in one can see
almost a carbon copy of that concerning our
Constitution. He held one of the strongest
influences on the Governing body. Samuel Adams
was a devout, Puritan preacher. A side note is
that Jonathan Witherspoon, also a signer of
declaration, and president of Princeton whom
personally trained up about 1/3 of the founding
Fathers was a Scottish-American Presbyterian
Clergyman. He was from Scotland, but both
Benjamin Rush, Benjamin Franklin also signers of
the Declaration petitioned heavily for him to
come to America.
A study of church history shows us that
Presbyterian was in essence the Scottish version
of the English Puritan. Both believed that the
common man had the right and freedom to read and
fellowship about the bible without the
interference of Popes, Kings, or earthly
government such as England at that time that
went back and forth from Catholic dominance to
Anglican intolerance. In fact when they
practiced water boarding you died, and that was
a probably more humane then the rack and other
tortures they did.
The United States has never been dominated by a
government that only tolerated one version over
another, or legislated that the freedom of
religion was to be state sponsored. It was
people sponsored, we the people.
When ever mistakes were made by civic, state, or
federal governments it was rectified in due
process by the will of the people because of
their religious influences. Much more can be
elaborated on this misunderstood area about why
America has been the greatest arbitrator of
freedom in the history of the world because of
our heritage of faith.
