WGSB-AM 1060 History

WGSB signed on as WQWX on December 7th, 1973. WQWX was later known as WHNI, and, in July of 1985, the station became WMYT and was renamed WGLH in 1986 before becoming WGSB on June 15th, 1990. The station aired country, southern gospel and religious programming and was once owned by Curtis Media before the station was ceded to Carolina Christian Communications in 1995 after a period off-the-air. The daytime only operation then began rebroadcasting the programming of WRTP, 1530 AM. In October of 2004, WGSB, WRTP-AM and WRTG were purchased by Estuardo Valdemar Rodriguez and Leonor Rodriguez, owners of WLLN in Lillington, for $1.1 million. On February 3rd, 2005, WRTP and its sister AM stations ceased broadcasting the "His Radio WRTP" Christian format. After a day off-air, the three stations resumed broadcasting a Spanish-language format on February 4th, 2005. Que Pasa Radio airs on WLLQ, WRTG, WGSB. These three stations carry the regional Mexican format formerly heard on WFTK (now WDRU), while WTIK airs "Que Pasa Mixx", a contemporary Latin format.
