OK so you're in Narita and you now you need to find something to do. First of all you should check out the events link above to see if there will be any special festivals around the time of your visit. In any case the most important things to consider are how much time do you have and how much do you want to spend....
Naritasan Park and Shinsho-ji Temple This is a beautiful park with many traditional buildings. While you're there you can check out the beautiful three-storied pagota, wildflowers, wall carvings and statues. The park is completely free and usually there are very few people there. It's an excellent place to take some wonderful photos of traditional Japanese architecture. Ask at your hotel or airport how to get there....you can probably walk there in less than 30 minutes. Plan for atleast 1.5 hours, but you could easily spend 4 or 5 hours seeing the whole place.
Boso no Mura Experience Museum This museum is a great place for "hands on" activities. Testing your hand at traditional weaving and trying on some Samurai body armour are two of the many activities here. In addition you can see architecture from Japan's early Meiji period and try some local quisine. Cost is 300 yen (about $3) for adults with discounts for students and children. Closed on Mondays. Get directions here.
