July 6: Narita Gion Festival A traditional Japanese festival honoring the arrival of summer; this is the largest festival of the year in Narita. Features a large parade with portable shrines pulled through the city.
August 7: Tanabata Festival (Japanese Star Festival). Shops at the entrance of the Naritasan Shinshoji Temple will be decorated with large colorful streamers. On this day people celebrate by writing wishes on tanzaku (small pieces of paper) and hanging them on bamboo sticks or other places.
August 23-24: Naritasan Mitama Matsuri Festival. A large festival with lively dancing in honor of Japanese Soldiers who died in war. Expect lots of foreign visitors, children wearing taditional yukata, and lots of fun!
