The photographs of lion pride lying on the road were taken on my first Safari. This was one of those occasions where you could easily get within a few feet of the animals you were photographing. The two photographs of the lionesses feeding on their kills were taken on different Safaris.

I did not see a lion make a kill. Tourists were not allowed to travel in the park at night and had to stay at one of the numerous tourist camps. Although these were quite comfortable, the lions seemed to hunt near dawn. This made it difficult to leave the camps and spot the lions before they made their kill.

It was common to see them spending most of day sleeping in the shade of a thicket or thorn tree.
