Masai Mara National Park is my favorite park for Safaris. It lies in
Southwestern Kenya bordering the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania. It is rolling,
open grassland with scattered acacia trees and thickets. It is a five hours drive from
Nairobi via the town of Narok.
The park encompasses the northern tip of the Serengeti Plain. Each year near the end
of June, the great herds of wildebeest and smaller herds of zebra in the southern Serengeti migrate north for
the sweet grass produced in Masai Mara by the long rains of April and May.
I made numerous trips to the park over a three-year period. I saw many animals,
but my most vivid recollections are the numerous lions and the splendid cheetahs.
