"The Day After Tomorrow" is a sci-fi ecological thriller penned by Art Bell, starring Dennis Quaid, Sela Ward and others. This particular scene was filmed in El Paso, Texas the weekend of the 4-6 of April 2003. The basic storyline given to the extras working this 2nd unit shoot was that many Americans were fleeing the frigid temperatures and crossing the border into Mexico. The temperature was about 10 degrees according to the storyline. However, the reality of things was that the temperature was in the 80s and everyone was bundled up to simulate the cold so the shoot became a little heated in more ways than one. There were about 1400 extras on the set Friday the 4th and the snow machines were worked overtime. The DAT crew was doing their utmost to keep things running as smoothly as possible utilizing crews from El Paso, New Mexico and other parts of Texas as well as an inexperienced group of extras that were pretty darned enthusiastic about the whole affair. All in all it was a good addition to the resume. |
