Bushwalking in Tohoku I

The Tohoku region of Japan, comprising of Aomori, Akita, Iwate, Miyagi, Yamagata and Fukushima prefectures, is certainly a beautiful region of Japan with lots of opportunities for one-day bushwalks or extended hikes. The problem with going bushwalking in Tohoku is getting the fine days to coincide with one's weekends. Well, at least that is what it seems like to me.

In this selection of photos, I have concentrated mainly on two of my favourite areas for bushwalking in Central Miyagi: Sankonomiya and the Nanatsu Mori. The main reason is that they were close to where I used to live in Ohira-mura. In "Bushwalking in Tohoku II" (under construction), I will put up photos from other parts of Miyagi, Hakkodasan in Aomori and Ura-Bandai in Fukushima. The funny thing is that I did more bushwalking in Japan than I do back home in Australia. I wonder if that is because I was an ALT with lots of free time on the weekends and good mates who had similar hobbies. If you're a Miyagi (particularly Kurokawa-gun ALTs) or even a Sendai ALT, go on and get yourself out to these places. You won't regret it.

For my former partners-in-crime as Miyagi ALTs (Dave, Chris, Peter, Josh and Lance), these photos hopefully are great reminders of our time in Japan. I reckon they will be like a trip down memory lane for you guys. Aren't you glad that you were an "Inaka ALT" and that I have spent heaps of time putting this website together?
