Age Of Darkness

Pre-Mogul

The Pre-Mogul phase starts in the 14th century and 15th century and falls just before the Mogul rule that starts in the 16th century. The Muslims had overrun much of India by then, but there were regions that maintained their independence. Many of the remaining independent regions still produced beautiful art. The occupied areas suffered greatly as art and culture was suppressed. Massive damage was done to artwork that was deemed un-Islamic.

This art form of this period is mostly religious. Even though they are not very rigid they show distinct religiousness and staticity. This phase is mostly archaic. The Mogul era will see a return to Classical forms. The form in this era is mostly archaic with little or no deviation. However, even though they are archaic, the complexity of the pieces are breath taking. The pieces are highly decorated with fine details as if baroque.
