Cemetery

The Hill Cemetery is in what is now Gaddysville Township (Robeson County, NC), on the old Hill place.  In the old days,  it was Solomon Hill's land.  The land eventually passed to William "Bill" Hill.  Bill gave the land to Tom Hill to take care of their mom, Alice.  Tom sold the land to my great grandfather,  John Monroe Hill.  The land then went to his wife, Annie Lizzie.  The land was then given to her boys, Paul, Monroe and Connely.  Eventually, Monroe, my grandpa, bought the others out to possess the land outright.  Grandpa Hill moved his family to Bladen County in 1954 selling the land to Ricks Faulk, Sr. who was married to Monroe's sister, Margaret.  The cemetery is located, unfortunately, in an area that is now a hog operation. It is off of Hwy 904 near White Pond Church Road intersection.  It is accessed via the "Old Faulk Road" beside the old Ricks Faulk house and is on the backside of a woodline joining a swamp marked and bounded by wooden posts.  The land is now owned by Lynn Johnson, second great grandson of Solomon Hill.

This photograph was taken on December 15, 1996.  Standing left to right:  Kenneth T. Hill, Randy Hill (your host!), Ricks (Ricky) Faulk, Jr. and Donald Hill.  On this day, the men finished cleaning off the cemetery and repairing the tombstones.  They are standing in front of the marker for their Grandpa Solomon Hill.  Make sure to visit this link to Solomon's page!
