Cascade Gulch

The route up to Hidden Valley leads from Bunny Flat to Horse Camp, and from there departs the more heavily traveled traditional summit route, traversing up and around several ridges and valleys that lie north of the Sierra Club cabin. On the way you cross a wilderness of volcanic formations intersected by stands of hardy Firs. The way climbs steadily up above timberline crossing rocky slopes as you ascend toward the rock cliffs formed at a cataract where an annual runoff creek pours out of Hidden Valley forming the major drainage called Cascade Gulch. This view looks north and shows the cliffs at the head of Hidden Valley with the cone of Shastina looming in the distance. [Climb On]
