Hidden Valley

Standing at 9000 feet elevation just at the entrance into Hidden Valley where Cascade Gulch pours out of the valley over steep cliffs, this view shows the desolate terrain formed by centuries of glacial, volcanic, and erosive forces. A few dwarf "Krummholz" pines dot the landscape which spends much of the year deep in snow. In the distance Shastina stands to the left, divided from the northwest ridge of Shasta as defined by an ascending lane of ice and snow running up Cascade Gulch. The summit of Shastina rises to 12,330 feet, or more than 3,300 feet above the elevation of Hidden Valley. [Climb On]
