| Alignment, Proximity, Repetition,
and Contrast are the four basic design elements of a web page.
Alignment refers to the way items on a page line up with on another. It is important to choose one kind of alignment and use it for the whole web page. A great way to help with aligning the page is to use tables. Make sure that the viewer has a strong vertical path to follow. Proximity Proximity refers to how close objects are to one another. Objects can look like they are connected or not connected depending on the spacing. Make sure the spacing is such that the view knows which items go with one another. Get rid of unnecessary spaces in the header and between text. Repetition Repetition refers to a repeating theme among pages. Do the pages have the same design on each level? Are there common links on each page? Do common graphics refer to similar things? Contrast Contrast refers to having the readers eye go to the most important thing first. This can be achieved by use of colors, spacing, size, and graphics.
