Boeing 707 Series:
Basic info: Built in 1958 as the world's second successful jet airliner (*the first was from the Soviet Union in 1954, and there was the DeHavilland Comet from Britain in 1949, but those were taken out of service because their fusalages kept depressurizing*). It is the classic jet airliner, and the symbol of the jet age worldwide. Remember-4 long & slim engines, close to the ground
Boeing 727 Series:
Basic information: Built in 1962 as a short range, medium capacity airliner. Before the 737, it was the most produced airliner in the world. Only about 1,000 were built, with production ending in 1984. Remember-low to the ground, T-tail, 3 engines at the rear of the plane.
Boeing 737 Series:
Basic information: Built in 1964 as a short range, low capacity airliner. It is the most produced airliner in the world, and I promise you that any Southwest Airlines plane is a 737 of one model or another. Remember-low to the ground, nicknamed "Fat Albert", flat tail (*no tail cone*), small airplane...and anything else you can remember to remember.
Boeing 747 Series:
Basic information: Built in 1969 as a long range, high capacity airliner. Before the new Airbus jet, it was the largest commercial airliner in the world. Maximum takeoff weight for the newest of the 747 family, the 747-400, is 400 tons. Remember-4 engines, big plane, nicknamed "Jumbo Jet", hump near the front of the aircraft, and with the 747-400 only, wingtips.
Boeing 757 Series:
Basic information: Built in 1982 at the same time as the 767 as a medium range, medium capacity airliner. They're very popular with airlines who don't fly really far or really near and don't have to carry a lot of people. Remember-bigger than a 737, 2 engines, flat near the nose of the aircraft on the bottom, thin, high off the ground.
Boeing 767 Series:
Basic info: Built in 1981 as a medium range, medium to high capacity airliner. You can kinda think of it as a fat 757, since the two were developed at the exact same time. Remember-umm...fatter 757, nose is pointier, wings swept back a bit more than the 757.
Boeing 777 Series:
Basic info: Built in 1994 as a long-range, high capacity twin engined airliner, the first of its kind certified for transoceanic travel without modification. It is the largest twin engined airliner in the world. Remember-12 wheel main landing gear (*2 sets of 6*), big engines, rectangular tail cone, smooth looking wings.
