Just after Mirai no Trunks was born, the world was in havoc. Dr. Gero's evil androids, #16, #17, and #18, were terrorizing the world, killing innocent people and destroying cities, but not before they killed Dr. Gero himself.
Why? you may ask. It's very simple. The androids were programmed to kill only Goku. Unfortunately, Goku had died of a heart virus. The androids had no purpose, so they went mad and turned on their creator. After, they attacked the world.
The androids killed every one of the Z Gang except Gohan. As Mirai no Trunks grew up, Gohan became like his father, or like a big brother. He trained Mirai no Trunks, but Mirai no Trunks was not able to go Super Saiya-jin.
One day Gohan decided to go fight the androids. Mirai no Trunks wanted to come, but Gohan wouldn't let him. In order to stop Mirai no Trunks from following, Gohan knocked Mirai no Trunks unconscious.
When Mirai no Trunks regained consciousness, he looked around for Gohan. Finally, he found Gohan, dead. Gohan had been killed by the androids. All the rage Mirai no Trunks had in his heart exploded, and with a furious scream, Mirai no Trunks went Super Saiya-jin!
Later, Bulma built a time machine and sent Mirai no Trunks into the past to warn them of the androids, and to give Goku the cure to his virus.
Mirai no Trunks arrived just in time to kill both King Kold and Freeza. He lead the Z Gang and Bulma to the spot where Goku was to land. He offered them a soda, and Krillin and Bulma noticed a resemblance between this mysterious youth and Vegeta.
When Goku arrived, Mirai no Trunks talked to him, first testing Goku out as a Super Saiya-jin, then revealing to Goku his past, and what would happen in the future. He also gave Goku a vial of medicine for the virus. Mirai no Trunks then went back to his time.
Later, when the androids #19 and #20 arrived, Mirai no Trunks came back to help the Z Gang out. It was after Vegeta killed #19 that Mirai no Trunks noticed that these were not the same androids as the ones in his timeline. It is also revealed to the gang that Mirai no Trunks is, in fact, the same person as the small baby Bulma was holding in her arms.
Vegeta chases after the escaping android #20, who told the gang he has 2 other androids in his lab. Mirai no Trunks follows, angry that Vegeta showed no love for his infant son.
Mirai no Trunks trains with the Z Gang during the Cell Game. It is then that he dons the long, shoulder length hair and blue spandex Saiya-jin outfit. :P He is killed by Cell but is later wished back using the Dragonballs. He returns to his timeline and eventually kills the androids.
