MALTA CHAMPIONS PROMOTED TO CHALLENGE I
Rabat Depiros victory in the playoffs saw the local champions finishing off joint first with the Slovak squad of KPH Raca. This also meant that Malta has now been promoted to participate in the EUROHOCKEY CLUB CHAMPIONS CHALLENGE I which will be held next year and in which Rabat Depiro would again be eligible to represent Malta as they are the current reigning champions for season 2005/06.
Rabat Depiro managed to beat the Norwegian champions Aker who placed first in Pool B by a emphatic 5-1 victory. After the disappointment of losing their game to group leaders KPH Raca, Rabat bounced back to beat the Norwegians in style. After having beaten them twice before in previous editions of the tournament, Rabat were odds on favourites to repeat the feat and they did not disappoint.
The EUROHOCKEY CLUB CHAMPIONS CHALLENGE II tournament was organised into two Pools and the winners of each pool played a playoff against the runner up of the other pool. The winners of the playoffs are declared joint winners of the tournament (no final is played). The Club Champions Challenge II tournament was held between Friday 2nd June and Monday 5th June 2006 at the Athens Olympic Stadium.
