The Island of Lanzarote
Lanzarote is less than 100 miles off the coast of North Africa, on the same latitude as Florida and surrounded by the Atlantic. This means that the weather is warm the whole year round. It does get hotter in the summer, but the surrounding ocean moderates the effects. The main resorts on the island are Costa Teguise, Puerta Del Carmen and Playa Blanca.
Playa Blanca
The town is a careful mix of the old and new and has not been overdeveloped.
However there are at least 3 excellent supermarkets in the town and lots of good restaurants at all price ranges.
A 30 minute drive from the airport will bring you into the top of the town with the harbour just beyond, where there are regular ferries to Fuertaventura.

Volcano!
