GS Training Begins In Panorama, B.C.
The first training of the new millenium was held on the slopes of Panorama in preparation for two Giant Slalom races hosted by Sask Alpine, also at Panorama.  Sixteen QVSC athletes participated at this camp - four trained with the Provincial Juvenile (K1/K2) Team while the rest trained with Kirk and Ryan Cochrane.  QVSC thanks Ryan for taking the time to assist with the coaching as he was also training for the upcoming race.
On Wednesday (Jan. 5) morning our athletes free skied on Showoff, the run where all training and racing was held, then, in the afternoon we trained gates on the bottom half of the run.  The next day we were able to train the complete run and our racers managed to get in a lot of quality training.  We shared the course with the Provincial Juvenile Team and Moose Jaw Ski Club.  This venue is very beneficial to the athletes development as they are able to experience terrain and speeds the cannot be obtained in Saskatchewan.  We thank Sask Alpine for providing this opportunity and hope it will continue to do so.

QVSC Prepares to Host First In-Province Race
Parents and coaches spent today preparing for the first Sask Cup races within Saskatchewan for this season.  While the race secretary and her assistants finalized preparing bibs and start lists, a few parents and coaches were busy setting up fencing, getting the timing ready, setting the first course, making a wind shelter (which was very much utilized and appreciated - especially on Saturday) and getting a lot of other necessities in place for the races.  The number of parents assisting with these projects was a bit disappointing, however, everything fell into place and we were ready for the onslaught of racers.  Thanks especially to John McNally and Cory Cochrane, who agreed to help Kirk set the course, yet stayed to help with all the fencing and windbreak.

QVSC Athletes Top Podium In 4 of 6 Classes
This weekend proved that, despite a bitter wind on Saturday, QVSC parents, athletes, and volunteers will all pull together to put on a fantastic weekend of racing!  Well done, and a big thank you to any and all who assisted in any way to make this weekend a huge success.
The highlight of both days of racing had to be the battle between the Simmons sisters to see which one would receive the Overall Ladies Best Award.  While Brittany won one run each day, big sister, Amber, proved she is not quite ready to give up her reign of being the top female slalom racer in our province.  Another high point of the weekend was the performance of our K1 (11 and 12 year old) male athletes and J1/J2 female racers - each group walked away with 5 of a possible 6 medals.  Also, our club boasts the top athlete in 4 of 6 slalom classes and they proved it this weekend, winning
GOLD both days - they were Kara Delaney in K1 Women, Brittany Simmons in K2 Women, Amber Simmons in J1/J2 Women, and Kenton Hamilton in K1 Men.
It was great to see the number of athletes from our club participating.  Almost all athletes from both the Divisional and Alpine Race Team programs helped QVSC increase its' lead for the provincial club championship!  Following are the medal winners from our club for both days of Sask Cup Slalom Racing:
