J4's Compete At Wapiti
Three girls and one
boy represented QVSC at this first J4 race of the season, hosted by the Prince
Albert Nancy Greene Ski Team. Cory Cochrane made the trip north to coach
our competitors, Walter Dippenaar, Yolandi Lombard, Brittany Mooney and Naomi
Ottenbreit. The J4 races are a bachleada format, which have the
athletes race two runs in the morning and two more in the afternoon. The
competitors result is the combined times of their best morning and best
afternoon runs. Once calculations were complete, Yolandi captured
the SILVER medal and Brittany
came away with the BRONZE
medal. Congratulations girls!

QVSC Nancy
Greeners Travel North
Kate Grapes and Gary Yeo coached seventeen athletes from
our Nancy Greene Ski League at the first provincial Nancy Greene Ski League race
of the season. Almost 200 children competed at this event, hosted by the
Wapiti Ski Club. While we were short of having representation in all
categories to be eligible for any awards, our racers showed very well!
QVSC would like to thank Matt Kuhling, a member of our Alpine Race Team, for
assisting the athletes throughout the day. All reports are that Matt did
an exceptional job!

Alpine Race Team Increases Points Lead
Blackstrap Winter Sports Park, near Saskatoon, was the site
for this weekend's Sask Cup Alpine Race Series. QVSC athletes brought home
numerous medals and ribbons along with a lot of points to help our club increase
it's lead for the overall club championship. Amber Simmons
dominated the women's category both days, winning the overall trophy each
day. Natasja Lombard was the best in the K1 women's division both
days, while the K1 men's and J1 women's groups swept their respective medals
both days! Many other QVSC athletes won medals each day. Overall, it

Simmons Collects Downhill Medals
QVSC's own Brittany Simmons went up against the best
13 and 14 year old racers from Alberta in Panorama, B.C. and stood upon their
podium after each day of Downhill Ski racing! Brittany placed second on
Thursday, and third Friday doing both QVSC and Saskatchewan proud.
Congrats Brittany!
Also representing Saskatchewan from our club at these speed
events were Joel Taylor and Allysen Reed. Joel, going up
against many competitors a year older, did exceptionally well, getting on the
front page of the results both days. In the first downhill Joel tied for
ninth, and he placed fifteenth on Friday among a field of 62 athletes.
Meanwhile, Allysen skied to a very respectable 27th on Thursday after starting
way back in the field and she managed to place in a similar position the next
day. These are tremendous results for our athletes as they have not had
much exposure to speed events to this point in their careers. Qu'Appelle
Valley Ski Club is very proud of each and every one of you!

Golden Day For J4's At Ochapowace
The second J4 race of the season, hosted by the Ochapowace
Ski Club, proved to be a very successful one for our QVSC racers. Lee
McDougall and Yolandi Lombard each collected a GOLD
medal for their efforts. The medal count continued as Gustav Dippenaar won
the SILVER medal in
the boys' division. John McNally coached these three along with Naomi
Ottenbreit, Beth Dolmage and Jocelyn Demaer. All the athletes'
accomplishments were great, especially since it was the first taste of
competitive racing for many. Well done John and great skiing athletes!

Super G Front Page For Delaney
QVSC's own Kara Delaney, youngest member of the
Saskatchewan Juvenile Alpine Ski Team, managed two impressive results at an
Alberta K1 (11-12 year olds) Super G Race at Sunshine Village. Both of
Kara's races placed her on the front page (top 15) of the final results.
Her placings of 9th and 11th among a field of 51 competitors is a great
accomplishment for a "flatlander". Good job Kara and keep up the
hard work!

QVSC Tops At Southern Nancy Greene Competition
Kate Grapes, assisted by Alpine Race Team member Matt Kuhling,
guided the Qu'Appelle Valley Ski Club Nancy Greeners to victory at the southern
semi-final Nancy Greene Ski League race. The Ochapowace Ski Club hosted
this event on the slopes of Ochapowace Ski Area. For this race the top ten
times from each club were tallied to come up with each teams result.
