Lombard Golden at Timber Ridge
Prince Albert Ski Club hosted a race for J4 (10 years old and under) athletes at Timber Ridge Ski Area. Yolandi Lombard, 9, a member of the QVSC Development Team, came away with the gold medal for girls. She was our club's lone participant at this race due to the distance involved.

Cochrane Off to Canada Games
Ryan Cochrane, 18, will be one of six alpine racers representing Saskatchewan at the 1999 Canada Winter Games in Cornerbrook, Newfoundland. The alpine events will take place at Marble Mountain.
Ryan has been a member of Qu'Appelle Valley Ski Club since 1985 and has been on one of the Saskatchewan Provincial Teams for the last six years. He has been sidelined for the past few weeks due to an ankle sprain suffered while racing Giant Slalom at the Utah Winter Games in January, however, he expects to be able to compete at the Games despite being somewhat rusty from the layoff. After the Games he will be returning to the mountains with the rest of the Provincial Team to prepare for other major events, such as the Canadian Alpine Ski Championships at Sun Peaks Resort(Kamloops, B.C.).

QVSC Collects Medals at J4 Championships
White Track Ski Area, near Moose Jaw, was the site of the J4 Provincial Championships hosted by the Moose Jaw Ski Club. The Bachleda format Giant Slalom was used to determine the standings. This format has the competitors race twice in the morning on the same course, then twice more on a differnt course in the afternoon. To determine an athletes result, their best time from the two morning runs is totaled with their best time from the two afternoon runs. From a field of 67 competitors, QVSC athletes showed very well, and in the girls category Yolandi Lombard brought home the silver while Kristen Solvey won the bronze medal.

March 7, 1999
QVSC at Nancy Greene Ski League Provincial Championship
Qu'Appelle Valley Ski Club was well represented in the field of 230 boys and girls participating in the Nancy Greene Ski League Provincial Championship held at White Track. Members from our NGSL and Development Team formed the QVSC Team which managed a third place finish among the eight clubs that were represented. Each club is placed from a team time which is calculated by totaling their ten fastest times (must include at least three times from 5-7, 8-10 and 11-13 age groups).
Snowboarders from QVSC also got to try out slalom and giant slalom racing in the first official Sask Alpine Snowboard Race. Ex-QVSC member, Trenton Boake of the Ochapowace Club acted as our snowboarders coach for this event.

March 12-14, 1999
Sask Cup Race Series Provincial GS Championships a Gold Mine for QVSC Women
There were nine gold medals available in the women's competition over the three days of GS racing at Ochapowace Ski Area. QVSC athletes Amber Simmons, Brittany Simmons and Danielle Kortmeyer each took home three gold to complete the sweep for our club. The Simmons sisters were most impressive, one or the other also winning the overall award each day. Amber topped all J1 (15-18) women and took home two overall awards, while Brittany swept the J2 (13-14) women and won one overall. Danielle proved to be the best J3 (11-12) girl all three days! Our club's women didn't stop there either, they swept all medals in J1 on Friday and Sunday along with all the J2 medals on Friday. Friday was the most impressive one for our women as they almost won every medal available to them - only the J3 bronze was missed, and just barely as Nastasja Lombard placed fourth, less than one second out of third. To prove that our men should not be overlooked, Joel Taylor, competing in the J3 men's category, had a sweep of gold medals himself. This kept Joel's incredible streak of winning the J3's at every Sask Cup race he has entered!
Friday's results:
J3 Women - Danielle Kortmeyer gold, Kara Delaney silver;
J2 Women - Brittany Simmons gold, Rachelle Hollinger silver, Sarah Boake bronze;
J1 Women - Amber Simmonsgold and OVERALL, Ashley Hall silver, Andrea Delaney bronze;
J3 Men - Joel Taylor gold, Aaron Fenwick bronze;
J2 Men - Daniel Ottenbreit bronze;
