About Us

We are a family with two children and came to Portugal to try to live a more sustainable lifestyle in beautiful surroundings. Our children are 15 and 12 (two older children are at present living in England) and have always been home educated.

We prepare vegetarian food and although not entirely self-sufficient we try to produce and prepare as much of our own food as we can, so as well as growing our fruit, vegetables and herbs we home-bake, make jams, conserves, olive oil, juices, dried fruit, some cheese from our goat milk and our chickens give us eggs.

We are particularly interested in coming together with other like-minded families and individuals to share, celebrate and work together. We meet regularly on each other's farms to work on specific projects, for example our most recent 'work day' was to build a compost toilet. On these days we bring food to share, swap news and gossip and often play music and sing afterwards. In this way we are developing community and co-operation which is something we firmly believe in and wish to encourage.

We have many interests and involvements which vary according to season and availability of time. We take part in an organic and craft market once a month where we sell the things we produce. This includes leather work, beadwork, baskets, rustic furniture, recycled mirrors, sun dried fruit, juice, surplus from the garden, small plants and some garden preparations. Other things we like to do are healing (journey work, Reiki, herbal medicine), singing, music and the making of folk and ethnic instruments, and meditation. We have dabbled with paper-making, batik, tie-dying, green woodwork, pottery, clothes-making and weaving, and in our spare time we like to do creative things.
