The Scottish Cup
Latest News
The Scottish Cup occupies an extremely prominent place in the annals of Scottish, and indeed World football, but is particularly special for Queen's Park. Apart from Celtic and Rangers, no other team has won the famous trophy as many times as Queen's- 10. Yes, the last of these was 110 years ago, but history is important, and the fans' still dream, irrationally or otherwise, of an 11th trophy one day. This page will cover this season's competition.
Match Reports and Results
Details of the forthcoming Third Round games will be available on the site by Friday, before the big day on Saturday. A special look-ahead to Queen's Park's first third round-tie at Hampden in six years, against Hamilton Accies, will be written on this page.

If you're still interested for whatever reason, you can read my preview of Queen's second round tie against Albion Rovers, and laugh at my inability to predict the score correctly. Click

Third Round ties

Queen of the South v. Aberdeen:
As for all SPL clubs, getting back into their stride after the winter break may be one of Aberdeen's toughest obstacles, especially at a First Division ground with a larger than normal home support well up for it. However, Steve Paterson has great knowledge of this level, and Aberdeen should travel back north safely through. 1-2.

Celtic v. St. Mirren:
St. Mirren will have the backing of around 2,500 fans at Parkhead, but their only consolation will be that almost legendary 'good day out' in Glasgow - which is merely yards from Paisley. 3-0.

Partick Thistle v. Dundee:
Thistle put out Dundee last season in a thrilling Dens replay. I suspect their good home form will mean that one will not be needed this year. 2-1.

Dundee United v. Hibernian:
Both clubs have respectable recent records in the tournament, though Hibs have not won it since 1902. United's home record this season is appalling though, and they have only beaten one team at Tannadice: Queen's Park. 1-2.

Livingston v. Dunfermline Athletic:
First meeting of the clubs in a Scottish Cup match. Livi lost two players this week, and have yet to sign Spaniard Guillermo Amor. Pars have had little joy in this competition for too long now. A draw, and the Fife team to win the replay. 1-1.

Falkirk v. Hearts:
Undoubtedly tie of the round, and one that would have made probably a far better TV spectacle than the one being shown. However... Falkirk have won every game at Brockville this term bar one, and Hearts will not relish it here, on a tight pitch with the backdrop of a pumped-up Falkirk support. I take Falkirk to win 2-1.

Kilmarnock v. Motherwell:
Off the pitch woes now seem to be affecting Kilmarnock to an extent not far off those which saw Motherwell put into administration. Games between these two are not often classics, and this one won't be either. 0-0.

Arbroath v. Rangers:
Do I have to? No? Good. 0-4.

Cowdenbeath v. Alloa
: Although not a major upset, I fancy Cowden to eliminate the more lofty Alloa, although both clubs are at the foot of their respective divisions. 2-1.

Ayr United v. Peterhead:
Ayr have let go of Eddie Annand to Morton, and he could be a huge signing for them. Stephen Whalen, ex- Morton is ineligible, but I think home advantage will tell for Ayr. 2-0.

Gretna v. Clyde
: It would be nice to see the people of Gretna get behind their local team by turning out for one of the biggest games in the club's history. I think Clyde will quite enjoy it down here though. 0-2.

Inverness v. Raith Rovers
: Both clubs are flying at present, and have enjoyed notable cup results over the last 10 years. Raith will be confident here, I feel, and will secure a replay. 2-2.

Ross County v. Morton
: Many Morton fans will make the trip, and they will be buoyed by the news that Eddie Annand has joined up... Williams and Annand is a partnership that may be frightening for Div. 3 defences. He can't play tomorrow though. Morton would have been strong favourites a few years ago, but not so now. I still think they'll take it back to Cappielow. 1-1.

Airdrie United v. St. Johnstone:
Hard for Saints, but they'll scrape through 2-1.

Forfar Athletic v. Stranraer: To me, Forfar look like going on something of a cup run again. 2-0.
