| Dave Stafford has been getting a lot of publicity recently, but who could say it isn't well deserved? As has been well documented, Dave travels in excess of 400 miles to see every home match. And The Sun decided to do a piece on him, with the story headlining the sports pullout of the newspaper on Saturday 28th September. Also featured are the Queen's Park Fansite's Joseph Mullaney and Martin Kelly, who sit next to Dave at home games. The above photo sees Dave with his prize for winning the Bell's Fan of the Month award for August 2002. Next to Dave are Joseph ( left ) and Martin. Dave tells me that the bottle of whisky will not be downed until Christmas- I believe him, thousands wouldn't. Dave's long journeys to come to Queen's games, especially considering the fact that he is virtually blind, made him an obvious choice to win the award. As can be seen from the pictures below, Dave's faithful guide dog Iris is very much a supporter of the Spiders, coming north for almost every game and helping Dave around. Queen's Park Football Club have quite a few extremely dedicated supporters who follow the team in every single game, home and away. But it would be hard to find any who are more dedicated than Dave. As QPSA supremo Keith McAllister said ( a man who has been to more than 1,000 consecutive Queen's matches ), 600,000 Glaswegians would not cross the road to see the team play, so for a resident of Hampshire with no family connection with Scotland to attend games suggests a supporter who is a bit special. |
