The Smartjacket
The Jacket AdvantagesProblems ResearchThe Future

Our original goal for this project was to make a jacket that’s eco-friendly, lightweight, and inexpensive (compared to the top of the line clothing systems).Over time, the goal changed to include added technology.  Of course, designing something new takes time, and money, which lowers the goal of cost in the scale of priorities.

Our current design of the Smartjacket includes 2 ½ layers: two thermal layers to wick perspiration away and still retain heat, and the “½” layer is a intricate and small grid of mircowires covered by micro insulation that is highly waterproof.  In addition, these wires conduct heat when the air surrounding the body is low in temperature, as well as allow a cell or an ipod to charge on the go.

Once we are able to mass produce “glitch free” Smartjackets ®, it will certainly be a smart decision to make, since everyone is on the go in New York.  Also, mass producing allows consumers to buy the product, which will slowly lower the MSRP until it’s your wallet’s true friend.

    The jacket's features include:

    1. Thermal wicking baselayer: knitted from polyamide fiber and treated with hydrophilic finish to absorb perspiration.
    2. Thermal fleece outer layer: wind resistant and pulls moisture away from the first two layers to allow evaporation
    3. Ability to heat itself accoriding to outside temperatures
    4. Long lasting, rechargable battery
