Ban Ti Culture

Ban Ti society is a loose clan structure, centered around their belief in the
Creators purpose for their people. Clans usually consist of 300-800 members led by a
chieftain. Chieftains are usually, but not always, the top warrior of the clan, most often a
Blade Master. Chieftains are advised by the Bak Ku, or wise one of the clan. The Bak Ku
acts as the holy man, interpretting the will of the Creator for the clan. Warriors usually
make up about 40% of the clan, with possibly one in 20 being a Blade Master. Blade
Masters hold respect just under that of a Chieftain or Bak Ku. The rest of the clan consists
of the craftsmen, farmers, etc, that any society needs to survive.
Of all the professions, the most respected among the Ban Ti is that of the
Swordmason, or KetBasur. This craftsman makes the Keto, a sword all Ban Ti men are
given at the age of 12. For the next year, these young men are trained in the use of the
Keto, hunting, and surviving in the harshness of the AkMilar Waste. Those who choose
to be warriors continue on to study An Keto Fe, the Way of the Sword. Any woman or
young girl who wishes to learn the Keto or become a warrior is allowed without question
to take part of the training. However, most Ban Ti women instead study An Laku Fe, the
Way of the Wind. The Way of the Wind is the express province of women, and no man is
allowed to study An Laku Fe.
Once every year the clans travel to their Place of Meeting, or AkTor. Here for
three weeks the clans trade, exchange news, intermarry, and celebrate the Creators
bounty. Also at the AkTor the Chieftains and Bak Ku meet in council to discuss things of
import to the Ban Ti. Warriors and Blade Masters hold tournaments of fighting skill, and competitions of archery prowess. Youngsters hold races, and craftsmen display their
finest goods.
