For the Recordbooks

Week 9 -- When the schedule was released, every owner in PWFFL looked closely at this week to see who got the lucky draw of playing the Green Bay Slackers during week 9. Why? Well, Green Bay had never won a PWFFL game when the NFL Packers had a bye week. The Northern Michigan Yoopers had the great luck in making the Slackers 0-6 during the Packers' bye. Or was it?

Dave S, owner of the Slackers, made sure this year to diversify his team to avoid the great collapse that seems to happen every year around this time. This strategy paid off huge for him as he is now sitting pretty near the top of the league with his 6-3 record after an amazing victory over the Yoopers this week, 99-81.

"This was our statement game," Dave spoke to a packed media room after the game, "This shows all those chumps that we have finally arrived and that there is more than one powerhouse in PWFFL from the state of Wisconsin. We are no longer a one trick pony and like I stated last year at the Awards Banquet, 2004 is our year"
The former Fudgepackers had a lot of key players step up in the absence of their stars. Rookie QB Roethlisberger connected several times with newly acquired Hakim and D. Clark. The Slacker running game got a big boost when O. Smith returned from serving a 4-game league suspension for wearing a dress on the sidelines during practice. Surprisingly, Green Bay was able to get the win despite leaving their highest scoring player of the week on the bench. Although, when your kicker breaks the all-time record for a week for their position, a number that has held for 4 years, you are bound to get a win.

This was a tough blow to a Yoopers franchise stuck in a four game losing streak. This game maybe the game that Jon looks back on if he ends up missing the playoffs this year. At 3-6 with both Kalamazoo and Seattle still on the schedule, things are not looking good. One more loss could very well eliminate any real hope of making the playoffs.

Rhode Island 120, Wisconsin 63
This is one of the better rivalries in PWFFL. They always seem to be tied together every year and the Ridicule seem to be having Wisconsin's number most of the time. This was another outstanding performance by MVP canidate P. Manning. Wisconsin is getting stuck with the injury bug, which may get worse before it gets better as 2x MVP Priest Holmes may sit in week 10. Rhode Island is in for a tough matchup next week against the amazing Slackers. Wisconsin looks to rebound against the Chads.

Kalamazoo 98, Detroit 80
The Drive just can't seem to get past the .500 mark. A lot of former Vikings played in this game for Detroit, but it seems their heart is still with Kalamazoo as they failed to produce the big numbers needed to win this one. With Randy Moss out for the Vikings, Puck had to rely on mid-season pickup, N. Burelson, and he picked up the points to cushion the win. Detroit will have a tough task getting back to .500 in week 10 as they travel out west to Seattle to face the red-hot Slugs.

W. Palm Beach 95, England 80
W. Palm Beach may still sneak up on the crowd before the season is over. Even though a win against the Teasers isn't big news, everyone seems to beat them, the Chads are starting to get back on track after moving their team headquarters during the early part of the season. With their scouts getting more comfortable, they are starting to make more moves with hopes at making a late-season run. England with this loss, also lost any hope of making it back to the playoffs.

Rocko 85, Timbuktu 58
Another team that is better than their record and making a move is the Rocko Bengals. They are riding a three game winning streak and could very well contend if their running game improves. McNabb has been flat as of late, but they still win. Rocko will be a strong team when they start running on all fours. Timbuktu looks to rebound next week when they get a nice break because they play the hapless Teasers.

Seattle 101, Benton Harbor 85
The league leading Slimy Slugs got the win as expected. Angela, the new owner of the Hoodlems, has been doing a fine job getting her team prepared and has been very competative as of late. The future looks promising for this franchise as they have a strong leader steering the helm. The Hoodlems lost their chance at a playoff spot this year, but they will surly play the roll of spoiler as they get a number of teams with playoff hopes left on their schedule.
