Blowing Up
Week 5 -- Kalamazoo public saftey had their hands full all week trying to subdue the riots that sparked up after the Vikings record breaking day. Flipped cars, burning building, and a general state of drunkeness engulfed the city as fans of the Kalamazoo Vikings were so excited about their teams dominating victory over the Rhode Island Ridicule 179-78.
The Kalamazoo Police Chief had never seen anything like it, "We've had some students go crazy after a big Western (Michigan University) before, but never in my 25 years have I seen such destruction after a regular season victory. We just weren't prepared, this is something that we expected after last season's Puck Bowl victory, and that wasn't even as bad as this week."
The Vikings management was obviously pleased with their team's rebounding performance after their disappointing finish last week against the Wannabes. "I think we got back on track, its disappointing to lose such a steak like we did last week, but at this almost makes up for it." They appreciated the fan support but thought that the rioting went over the edge, "Its good to see how passionate Kalamazoo is about our football team, but we all took a step back as a lot of the great improvements to the city over the past couple years were destroyed."
Rhode Island was not too surprised by the outcome as they figured that the Vikings would be motivated to show that last week's showing was a fluke. Owen's missing leadership may have been an issue of the Ridicule's mediocre preformance, but really wasn't the difference in the game. They will have another tough matchup next week against the very hot Seattle Slimy Slugs.
Northern Michigan 102, W. Palm Beach 94
This game was a nailbiter until the Monday night game when Chris Brown just exploaded for the Yoopers. The Chads have been having problems all year with their runningbacks, and it was no different this week against the Yoopers. W. Palm Beach Tight End Eric Johnson tried to make a game of it, but couldn't shoulder all of the work himself. Its not going to get any easier, as the Chads visit Kalamazoo. N. Michigan could be up for a tough one themselves as you never know what to expect out of Timbuktu.
Seattle 87, Wisconsin 66
Neither the Slugs nor the Wannabes had a good week this week. The Slugs got a glimmer of hope that their quarterback situation might actually be solved as Carr is starting to look like a top signal caller. The Wannabes are surely not the same team without their power running game of Holmes. Walker tried to make up the difference, but the Slugs were just too much to overcome. Wisconsin will try to get back on track with the Rocko Bengals coming into town next week.
Timbuktu 91, Detroit 61
The Buccaneers are one of the strangest teams to figure out. They are always so close to contending, but lack the consistancy to be a major player for the entire length of the season. The City of Detroit is one of those cities that never has more than one championship team a year. Since the Pistons of the NBA won their championship, its starting to look like the Bribin Cup is going to avoid the east side of Michigan once again unless the Drive get their act together. The league office has suspended Jamal Lewis for two games for walking and chewing gum at the same time during a post-game interview combined with Henry's injury, things are not looking up in the motor city. They do however get the Hoodlems in week 6, however that could be a tough matchup as Benton Harbor is getting closer and closer to a win every week.
Rocko 84, England 72
The Fog and Mirrors era in England is coming to an end as teams in PWFFL have figured out how to manhandle the Teasers. Rocko also came into the game without a win on the season, but managed to come out on top thanks to a big game out of M. Robinson who filled in for the absent Chad Johnson. Rocko is very happy with finally being able to get a win and looks to put together a streak against Wisconsin next week. The Teasers however have to travel to the mystque of Lambaisted Field against the Green Bay Slackers.
Green Bay 72, Benton Harbor 70
The Hoodlems had the surprising Green Bay Slackers beat, until their defensive coordinator called for the prevent defense and let the Slackers walk down the field to victory. This was a disappointing loss for Benton Harbor who will be looking to secure their first win of the season against the underachieving Detroit Drive. Green Bay hosts England with a chance to get five wins for the first time since 2001.
