Lauth, Hartman

Co. "A" & "E"

Hartman Lauth married Katharina (AKA Catharine) Steinbrecher (Born Oct. 26th 1837 in Hessen, Germany) on the 12th of July 1853 in the German St. John's Evangelical Reform Church, 2120 Russell at Gratiot, Detroit, Michigan - Paster Charles Haass.

There was three children from this union. Elizabeth, George and Mary Lauth.

At age 30, indicated his residence as Wayne Co., he enlisted as a Corporal in Co. "A" 2nd Michigan Infantry on the 18th of April 1861 in Detroit Mich. for 3 years of service. He took the muster oath on May 25, 1861.

He was Promoted to Sergeant on the 25th of September 1861.

He was discharged for disability at the General Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio on the 30th (19th) of August 1863.

He re-enlisted in Co. "E" of the 2nd Michigan Infantry on the 12th of January 1864 at Detroit, Michigan for 3 years service at age 33. He took the muster oath the same day.

He reached the regiment, then in the field on the 1st of July 1864.

There might be an error in the record. He was killed in action near Petersburg, Virginia on June 17, 1864. (I think someone accidentally mixed the dates, think he reached the regiment on June 17th and was killed on July 1st)

He may have reached his regiment the 1st of June 1864.

He was Killed In Action (KIA) in Petersburg Va. on the 17th of June 1864.

Some records indicate he died of Wounds received in battle others Killed In Action.

His wife received a pension between 1864 - 1895. Pension was $8.00 per month to $12.00 in 1895. It stopped on 09-04-1895 because of death.

Katharina Steinbrecher passed away in September 1895 and was laid to rest in Elmwood Cemetery sec.8 lot 21 g8, Detroit, Mich.
