I am not a travel agent yet. But my idea of a travel package should be something to remember and a story to tell to your families, relatives, friends or neighbours back home. Instead of just showing-off the nature (mountains and beaches etc.), why not at the same time learn the history and of course geography while visiting places. That way you will understand the people of this country, why they are like this or behave like that today. A brief history A history I would like to include here is related to the Dutch collonial time, or better known to us Indonesians, as the VOC time. VOC in Dutch stands for Verenigde Ost-Indische Compagnie or the United of East-Indian Company. As a matter of fact the first Europeans who sailed to the Indonesian archipelago were the Portuguese merchants. But it was the Dutch who came later, that intensivey traded with the locals, mainly spices. Soon the Dutch formed the VOC and along came the troops. They built fortresses and practically formed an administrative government covering all the main islands. In the mean time, the locals were divided into small kingdom and sultanese. There was no central power governed by the locals, thus the Dutch were the authority and issued regulations and law. It was a collonization. For how long ? More than 400 years and it succeeded simply by "divide and conquer" strategy imposed by the Dutch.
