Most probably you've heard about BALI and most likely you didn't know it is in Indonesia. Aceh, remember the big tsunami ? Is also in Indonesia, but far away from Bali. This country is the largest archipelago in the world, multi ethnic, multi racial, and last but not least, multi problem. It is not easy to recommend to someone (a tourist) about which places to visit first. It is a big country, spread over the equator, 3 time-zones, 5 main islands: Sumatra, Java, Kalimantan, Sulawesi , and West Papua. Rainforest, jungle, orangutan, komodo, mountains, beaches, waves for surfing, tropical islands, lakes, volcanos, all of it you can find in Indonesia. The most comfortable way of moving from one island to another is by plane. But then, you won't see anything. Some people start with the capital city Jakarta. Others prefer to land first in Bali, since it is worldwide known. After that proceed to Lombok or further to Komodo island to see some living prehistoric reptiles. On the way back home, stop over in Jakarta for a couple of days, and back home to civilization. Nevertheless, for those seeking sun and sandy beach, I would recommend Bali and / or Lombok first. For those interested in art and culture, visit all 5 islands ! Just kidding. Let me put it the other way, ask me questions, tell me what you want to do or see, and I'll provide the answer for free. No matter when you decide to come to this country, next week, next month, or perhaps next year, or just doing some research or planning a vacation, ask me questions. I repeat, it's free. Jakarta - the capital city. Nothing to brag about, big, crowded, polluted, a little bit "cruel" and dirty, but like any other metropolis, has its own charm. You'll find many ethnics from different parts of Indonesia flocked in this big city trying to make a fortune or at least a living. Muslims, Christians, Buddhists, Hindus, and others, all in one place. West Java - Jakarta is located in West Java but there are places and other cities which are worth visiting, such as Bogor or Bandung.
Bali - beautiful, charming, relaxing. You will find Balinese very
friendly and hospitable, and are more used to see foreigners (tourists) and
know how to treat or deal with them.
