VoIP? Are you spending more than $15.00 per month on India call (for a single #)?

Well, how about this.

Get a Vonage connection in US and sponsor one for India(where you call most). Vonage-to-vonage is free. So, you and your family in India can talk 24/7/365. Also, you get 500 national any time minutes (US) and so do they.

Yeah, it does have a delta. You need broadband. I am using vonage and am planning to try this in Chennai. Will post if it works. Any doubts, email me. (will not charge you :) )

I know what you are thinking, I am not a sales guy for Vonage. ha ha.

UPDATE (Updated : 03-Oct-2004)
At last tested the service in India. Had some initial setup issues but works fine now.
Cost :
    One time Vonage   - $29.99
    One time Shipping   - $10.00
    Ship to India(USPS)  - $23.00
    Monthly Charge   - $14.99 + Tax (appx. $1.50)

Another Idea (Updated : 15-Oct-2004)

How about this..

  1. Ask your family in India to get a phone with 2-lines.
  2. Connect Vonage Line to Line1 and India Line to Line2.
  3. Let them Call US thro' Vonage Line1 and Call friends (or family) in India on Line2.
  4. They can hit conference button in the phone (all two line phone will have this) to connect the local and vonage call.
  5. Now you are talking to your friends(who did not have vonage) for free!
