Michael Irvin also appeared in court on Monday to plead not guilty to possession of cocaine in connection with his high-profile August 2000 arrest. Of these two stories, care to guess which one got more play in this morning's Dallas Morning News, and by how much? Number of words DMN dedicated to the Baylor cat-killers' plea story: 816 Number of words DMN dedicated to the Cowboy star's cocaine-possession plea story: 410 BTW, Irvin's charge carries jail time of 6 months to 2 years and a fine of up to $10,000. The Baylor players' charges carry up to 1 year in jail and up to $4,000 in fines. Where the heck is Cornerback Blitz or ScottS when you need someone to rip special interest groups? Can a brutha get some help? bbfan77777 Registered User Posts: 2 (8/19/01 8:29:51 am) Re: What a joke... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Do you people really think that the brutalization, torture and murder of one of God's living beings is a JOKE? I don't know what kind of Christians you profess yourselves to be, but I'm a Christian, and I believe that ALL life is sacred and is to be cherished. I believe it says that somewhere in the Bible. Or am I missing something here? Do I need to re-read my Bible? Did I miss the section where it says it's okay to murder a living being? I totally understand loyalty, and I'm a baseball fan, but I just can't believe that, as CHRISTIANS, you think that what Brehm and Bowers did is okay. You should be ashamed of yourselves. No Christian *I* know or have *ever* known has taken this kind of attitude towards the murder of one of God's innocent creatures. Shame on you. Jamie CTbruin Registered User Posts: 81 (8/19/01 11:36:11 am) 77777 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- No one is saying what they did was "okay".. just don't give into the tree huggers and make the punishment fit the crime. For first time offenders of a misdemeanor, why the hell is it going to court? A waste of taxpayer money....just fine 'em, put em' on probation, some community service and be done with it. CT bbfan77777 Registered User Posts: 4 (8/19/01 1:34:49 pm) Re: 77777 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CT, So, are you saying that you *don't* think what Bowers and Brehm did to Queso is okay? I'm not *giving in to the tree huggers" as you put it; I, as a Christian, simply believe that no one has the right to take the life of another living being. That is MY belief, no matter what *anyone* else in the entire *world* believes. Do you think fining them, community service and probation will have any effect on whether or not they commit this type of act again in the future? I don't. What *I* think is that anyone who can do something like this is dangerous. Why do you think this should be trivialized? Do you really *want* someone in your midst who has so little regard for life that he/they would do something like this? Do you? I don't. It *scares* me. People go to court and go to prison for *bad checks* for pete's sake. Do you think the murder of a living being is less significant than a bad check? Have you ever actually *thought* about what Queso went through--the pain and the terror? He *trusted* Brehm and Bowers. Why don't you take a few minutes, go to a quiet place and picture in your head the terror this kitty must have felt and then the pain he had to endure? Have you done that? I don't think you have, because if you truly think about it, it would cause you pain as it does me when I think about it. Queso was a living breathing creature of God, and he felt the emotions that we feel, albeit on a different level. He had a right to a peaceful existence, just as we, as God's creatures, do. Jamie Wacoso Registered User Posts: 135 (8/19/01 3:58:01 pm) Re: 77777 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So what you are saying is that you don't eat meat since one should not take the life of defenseless animals? I know they didn't intend to eat the cat, but it is the same argument you are putting forth. bbfan77777 Registered User Posts: 7 (8/19/01 5:18:55 pm) Re: 77777 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Wacoso, Whether or not you or I eat meat is totally irrelevant to this topic. The issue on this topic is that some people are making a joke out of the brutal killing of Queso, the cat. As a matter of fact, I *am* against eating meat, but, again, that isn't relevant. You are trying to skirt the issue of the violence involved when Brehm and Bowers killed/murdered Queso, the cat, and whether or not it is Christian-like behavior. Why is that, I wonder? If everyone knew of this stray cat that lived at TC then why didn't anyone adopt it? Another question I have is if no adoption of the stray cat then why not take it to the pound where it would be put to sleep? Another is a violation of the restraunt by having this stray cat around providing possible disease, ranging from rabies to distemper. I will no longer go to Taco Cabana if they are willing to let a stray cat live there and have the chance for any human to get diseases. Maybe you could intern for Bill Clinton. If I were you I would take the story elsewhere. Drive to Pat Neff if you need to, but posting here will not do any additional good. What is horrible is the peddling of drugs to the youth in our communities. What is horrible is the wholesale slaughter that I see on the news every night. What is horrible are the small and large wars where human beings are dying by the thousands all over the planet. Is killing a stray cat horrible? Let's get a little sense of perspective. These guys made a bad choice, but not horrible. Is sport fishing horrible? Is sport hunting horrible? In both of these pasttimes, "innocent" animals are killed and likely experience painful deaths. How different is this? In this case they killed an animal that is not a sport animal, they discharged a weapon inside a city, and did so outside of any hunting season. Does that mean that our judicial system really needs to devote a lot of time and energy to this? Of course not. While our courts are clogged to the point of choking, forcing prosecutors to extend plea bargains to drug dealers, killers and other criminals because there simply aren't resources to investigate and try the cases, our society is prosecuting two young men that screwed up. What is horrible, is the amazing waste of court time, the amazing waste of prosecutorial resources and a system that fundamentally says killing a stray cat is as bad as or worse than muder, theft, rape, etc. I'm with CT...... fine, probation, community service is all that should happen. I'll go one further to say that is all that would happen except they played baseball for Baylor University and some people like cats more than people. Thank goodness these wierdos are the minority among us. Unfortunately, the minorities always seem to be the loudest and most aggressive in their views. Baylor democrats are an example. Leon Jaworski, Ann Richards and Mark White are among the 20% of democrats who graduated from Baylor. Quick, how many Republican governors graduated from BU? Can't we find even one from among the 80%? Sad, eh? Oh well, we're still the majority, and we DID stop the fanatical right wingers from taking over our beloved Baylor and turning it into an undergraduate seminary. But some of these animal rights idiots are also fanatics and have to be rebuffed on occasion, lest they try to turn us all into vegetarians. Sr Wood Registered User Posts: 6 (8/22/01 9:44:22 am) I'm surprised no one's brought this up!! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Someone posted over on BFans the link to a Queso website, I think it was quesojustice.com? It's good for a hard laugh. You can write the editor of EVERY major paper in Texas about the Queso thing as well as EVERY criminal investigation organization and EVERY Animal Rights group, just to see how long they can keep it in the air. You can even buy shirts and mugs LOL. They also mention their "goddess", Cindy Van Auken, about 50 million times. She's the complete idiot Trib writer who has to write up a page-long recap of the entire incident once about every two weeks (including the fact that Clint's mom wasn't available for contact), then throw in the one-sentence update at the very end. Also, did anyone see that letter to the editor in today's paper? LOL, this person calls anyone who thinks Baylor did something FOOLS! If I remember correctly, it was against the law for Baylor to disclose what action it took against the players? I see more remorse for this dumb ten-cent cat than for the five children who were drowned by their own mother 4 hours south of us. Is something wrong here? Get a life, people, the cat is dead and the horse is too. Let justice take its course.
