Mistake Rose Blues

In this song, Swami X relates his experience in the Mystic Rose group. The Mystic Rose is a meditative therapy devised by Osho, lasting three weeks. The first week you laugh for no reason for three hours per day, the second week you cry for no reason three hours per day, and the last week you sit for no reason three hours per day. As Swami X says, "There's no reason to even do this group".

(To the tune of Bluegrass Blues)

I left my farm to take a holiday,
The Club Med in Poona seemed a chic place to stay.
Seeing how I love to make flowers grow
I signed up for a group called the Mistake Rose.
Always wanted to know, how to grow roses without making mistakes,
Seemed just right to enroll, in a group called the Mistake Rose.

Chorus :
I got the Mistake Rose blues,
Laughing in the morning, crying in the afternoon,
Sitting in the discourse, wondering where I put my shoes,
I got the Mistake Rose — Mistake Rose blues.

I came late the first day about half past the hour,
Didn't see no roses or any kind of flower.
They played us a joke on the tape machine,
Folks was laughing harder than I had ever seen.
The joke was kind of funny but not that great,
But some people laughed for three hours straight.
I asked the group leader to explain the technique,
She made a face like a monkey and tickled my feet

I asked another guy what the heck was funny
He said "My girlfriend left me and took all my money."
Never seen such a crazy bunch of folks,
They start off laughing before you tell the jokes.
I found it all so queer I lost control,
Started laughing out loud for no reason at all.
I thought maybe I was going insane,
They assured me it was normal, I'd get serious again.

Chorus

The next week was different, it was time to be sad,
Grown men was crying, like kids who lost their dad.
Seeing men cry like girls, I was so amazed,
Made me so sad that I cried for seven days.
I didn't know how come I cried,
Then I remembered the day my dog died.
I thought about my horse, his name is Pete
Made me cry so much I had to hide under a sheet.

Chorus

The last week was sitting, with nothing to do,
I would have watched TV, but there weren't none in the room.
You might be surprised but it's a spiritual thing
You entertain yourself.... by witnessing.
They said it's OK to get bored,
But you're not supposed to judge it and you're not supposed to snore.
If you sit their long enough and you don't fall asleep,
You end up enlightened, and folks'll touch your feet.

I sat for seven days, counting out the minutes,
I hoped to get enlightened, before my back was finished.
But if I am a Buddha as I heard Osho said,
How come I still have to get up and make my bed.
Now I want to be a guru too
So I can smoke tobacco and marijuana too
'Cause if I am a guru, then all I do is right
And none of my disciples will tell me I'm not bright.

Chorus
