Flags and their Meaning

Race Flags
  • GREEN FLAG - signifies the start of a race or restart after a caution.

  • YELLOW FLAG - cautions drivers to slow down and hold their position because an unsafe condition exists on the race track. Drivers may not pass each other under yellow, but may catch up to the leader.

  • RED FLAG - usually waved after a yellow flag, declares that all drivers must come to a complete stop because of unsafe conditions, often due to an accident or weather.

  • BLACK FLAG - tells a driver to go immediately to the pit area for consultation. If the driver fails to report to the pits in a reasonable amount of time, scoring of that particular car may be discontinued.

  • BLUE FLAG with YELLOW DIAGONAL STRIPE - indicates to an individual driver to move to another lane to allow a faster car to pass.

  • WHITE FLAG - indicates to drivers that they have started their final lap.

  • BLACK-AND-WHITE CHECKERED FLAG - means that the race has been completed. Drivers earn points in each race that count toward the series standings.
