The National Association for Stock Car Racing (NASCAR) first sponsored premier championship events in 1949. Now referred to as "Winston Cup" races, they consist of highly modified racecars that resemble stock sedans. With tube frames and 700+ horsepower V8's they can exceed 200 MPH if unrestricted.
