Before, we thought that we're unlovable and destined to be alone ... until God crossed our path through a Christian co-worker of Robbie. We began as long distant friends sharing each other's life and the Word of God through phone, letters and emails. After months of continuous correspondence, our friendship developed into something deeper. Though we haven't seen personally, with faith and prayers, we felt the sincerity and love of each other. Neither of us ever dreamed of having this kind of relationship. As what the Bible says, many are the plans in man's heart, but it is the Lord's purpose that prevails (Proverbs 19:21).
Robbie first made his phone call on March 19th, 1998, 5:30 am (PST), and I received his first letter on April 14th (his birthday). After months of continuous communication, he visited me in the Philippines for the first time on October 31st, and we got engaged on November 5th during our candlelite dinner date at Malate, Manila.
Robbie visited me once more on April 9th, 1999, which is an affirmation of his love for me. This time, he stayed two weeks longer in the Philippines compared to his first visit. It was also a very pleasant surprise visit because I just came from a business trip when I saw him and my parents fetching me from the airport. This was even more special because we celebrated his birthday together, and he attended my graduation in my graduate study.
During Robbie's visits to the Philippines, we found ourselves compatible in so many ways. We both have strong faith in God and love for family. By the grace of God, the immigration papers went through smoothly, and I left Philippines on August 17th.
Our blessed union was fulfilled on August 21st, 1999 on a beautiful summer day in California, and it was ministed by Rev. Jack Ericson of the Immanuel Lutheran Church.
After more than four years of our marriage, together with Yna, Robbie and I decided to renew our vows in the presence of my Filipino family and friends. The ceremony was officiated by Rev. Paul Narido of Jesus is Lord (JIL) Church.
Because of love, Robbie took the courage of going to the Philippines -- his first travel abroad -- to meet the woman of his dreams. It is also love why I took the risk of leaving everything behind in the Philippines -- my family, church, friends, education and profession -- in order to be with the man who loves me most. Since our wedding, we've been living a happy married life, continuously blessed in every way and grateful to our Almighty God.
