In February I met Hardscratch Press publisher, Jackie Pels who was in Kenai promoting a newly published book. Jackie visited the Kenai Writers' Group and also gave a talk at a local coffee house.

Immediatedly upon her return to California Jackie began the finish work on a new project getting it to press on deadline. This week she and author Lisa Augustine are in Kenai to promote Lisa's new book, The Dragline Kid.

author Lisa Augustine
Both Jackie and Lisa spoke to a small group at the Kenai Visitors Center this afternoon. We were also entertained by the Hamiltons who, along with Jackie, performed a song Jackie wrote especially for Lisa's birthday.

Jackie specializes in memoir-type books, and books mostly with an Alaskan theme or flavor. Both she and Lisa grew up in and around Kenai. It was reunion time today as many of their school mates from 50 years ago came to visit with them and to purchase a copy of Lisa's book.

And, of course, I purchased my copy and had it inscribed. Then Jackie and I had our picture taken together as well.

Our local newspaper published a very nice review this week.

The book is not available from the online book sellers. Rather, you can order it through the publisher:
