I met a Suiss couple who tell me that many Europeans actually romanticise the Mekong River. This may be due to many stories they've heard of about the romantic hardship of love between a western man and a Lao woman, and vice versa, during the early wars. This couple that i met brought with them a bottle to take the water of the Mekong River back home with them ... how romantic huh !!!
Apart from that though, the Mekong is a great big port for means of travel, trade, food ... It is a link between many countries in the region - including the famous 'Golden Triangle' of Laos, Thailand and Burma ... |
