About the Friends

Laying slats on the track to Waterloo Bay, April 1998

The Friends of the Prom Inc. is a group of Volunteers with a shared love of Wilsons Promontory National Park. Our aim is to assist park staff with preservation and upkeep of one of Victoria's oldest and largest National Parks, which was first reserved in 1898.

The Friends hold five or six weekend activities a year, usually comprising of work (approx. 6 hours) on the Saturday and relaxation on the Sunday - a walk, a swim, surf or just lazing around. Members receive five newsletters a year containing reports and program details for the weekends.

We usually camp at Stockyard Camp (opposite the Yanakie Ranger Station, on the left of the exit road from the park), where we have a shelter with a fireplace, and a basic toilet block with hot showers. Drinking water is available but BYO everything else. You can arrive on the Friday or drive down just for the Saturday and of course leave after the working bee whenever you wish. Camp at Tidal River if you so prefer. Please contact the Friends if you would like more information
