| Chile is an incredibly diverse land. From the Atacama desert, through to the lakes and forests, to the Andes, there is always something different to experience. Temperate rainforests, active volcanos, crashing glaciers and white water rivers can all be found in Chile Politically Chile is adapting well to democracy and is now the most politcally and economically stable country in South America. The main export is copper, but there is also a high quality wine industry, as well as timber and fruit exportation. Chile's ethnic mix is mainly Spanish, but there are still a few indigeneous groups, like the Mapuche who live in the South.Chileans are welcoming and friendly, and family plays an important part in Chilean life. |

| THE PROJECTS | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Project Trust have been sending volunteers to Chile for 12 years, since the fall of Pinochet's regime. There are 7 projects in Chile, most based in the capital city Santiago, and another in the Southern Temuco region. All of the projects are English teaching projects, teaching in large primary and secondary schools. Volunteers work with a mixture of age and ability, sometimes supported by other teachers, sometimes independantly. Volunteers live with host families, which helps not only with learning Spanish, but also with learning about life and culture in Chile. |
